Production data Yamaha RD125 1973 - 1986
It can be very hard or sometimes even impossible to find production data for Yamaha's from the seventies. Apparently Yamaha didn't keep record of their production data back in the days... or maybe those books are laying, covered in dust, somewhere at an attic.. who knows. Thanks to Yamaha Australia I got production numbers of most of the Yamaha RD125's. I've put them together in an Excel file to give you an idea of the numbers of Yamaha RD125's ever made.

Parts lists and Manuals
Basically the Yamaha RD125A is the same as the 1973 RD125. The 1973 RD125 was sold in Europe as the Yamaha AS3. If you're looking for parts for your 1974 RD125 A, you can use the 1973 RD125 parts manual (download
http://www.yamaparts.com/manuals/ ) , however there are some minor differences which you can find in the RD125A supplement (4 pages, see below).

ReplyDeleteThanks Adi
ReplyDeletehi my Yamaha rd 125 engine/frame number is as3 220116 what year is it and is it a or b thanks kerry
ReplyDeleteHi Kerry, it's a Yamaha 1974 AS3, basically the same as a Yamaha RD125A
DeleteHey, I have an AS3 with frame number AS3-007xxx - what year would that be? Are all the pistons the same for all AS3/RD125s from 69-75? Thanks, Giles
ReplyDeleteHi Giles,
ReplyDeleteYou need a complete frame number to tell what year it is. As it starts with AS3 it's either 73 or 74. The pistons are not the same for the AS3 and RD125 engines. Have a read about the differences here: https://yamaha-rd125.blogspot.com.au/2015/11/fitting-new-pistons-and-rings.html
Thanks. Frame number is AS3-007155
DeleteOk, so the 466 pistons definitely can not be used in place of the 307 pistons?
So what do you think?
DeleteHi Giles. Your machine sounds like an actual AS3, rather than the early RD125 type which has AS£ engine prefix but the numbers started at 2xxxxx. Your machine is probably 1971. The 307 pistons have no 'windows' in them unlike the 466 pistons which did as the RD125 models had reed vallve induction with extra ports in the cylinder walls
ReplyDeleteHello
ReplyDeleteIn the attached production data, there is no 1E7 model. Why?
I have such a Yamaha
It's there, but exel mixed it up a bit to 1.00E+7.
ReplyDeleteHej har en yamahamotor med nr
